How to tour the Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City? Tour them together or separately ? Or tour the Tian'anmen Square firstly or the Forbidden City firstly? In which way you can save your valuable time?

The Tian'anmen Square is a public square without entrance ticket fee, but you need to take your passports waiting in line to pass the security check point(if you have a tour guide, you will go through it quicker and easier). You can walk in it just between sunrise and sunset.( so the touring time is a little bit different everyday.) The rest of the day, you only can walk beside it, but you still can see everything in it and take good photos.

But in the old days, the square is not a public square, it served as the ceremonial square for the emperors(kings). Emperors leave the Forbidden City going along the whole square to different imperial temples for important ceremonies.

Forbidden City is just located in the north to the Tian'anmen Square, there are 3 huge gates with golden roofs between them. From 2016, the Forbidden City use real-name system to sell the tickets on line. It is closed on Mondays. Each day maximum number of 80,000 tourists can visit it. During the May Day Holidays, summer holidays and National Holidays, you need book the tickets 2-4 days ahead of your schedule. It's a big city not only a palace, you will get lost in it. You only can enter it from the south gate and exit it from the North gate. So how to tour the important places in a proper length of time is a skillful job. So we recommend you to tour it with an experienced tour guide(Please check this link:http://www.beijingmeetrip.com/pd.jsp?id=17#_pp=108_953) to show you some side places which you can see the real details not only see the exteriors of the huge buildings, you also can learn important history and interesting stories about Chinese emperors and their ladies.

The best way is to tour them together in which way you can save a lot of time. Start from the Tian'anmen Square (south) to the Forbidden City( north), so you won't miss any important buildings, you also need not to walk a long way back( north gate of the Forbidden City to the Tian'anmen Square which is about 1.5KM)
